Rooney back in three weeks

It had been feared that 24-year-old could be doubtful for this summer's World Cup, although United later confirmed he suffered only minor ligament damage.
Ferguson followed up that bulletin by putting a timescale on Rooney's
return and revealed the striker should be back in action within three w
Rooney underwent scans on Thursday and the vastly-experienced Scottish tactician insists the nation can breathe a sigh of relief that he will be fit for the World Cup in South Africa.
"The nation can breathe again. We're relieved," explained Ferguson. "It could have been worse."
While Ferguson is down that Rooney will miss some big games in the coming weeks he is delighted he will be back in action before the end of what is sure to be a fantastic conclusion to the campaignSparkling Ganguly stars in vital Kolkata victory

Inspired by their captain and urged on by the cauldron that is the Eden Gardens, Kolkata Knight Riders roared back into the competition with a clinical win over Deccan Chargers. A splendid 88 from Ganguly, who with David Hussey led Kolkata's revival, propelled the home side to a formidable total and the bowlers struck telling blows across Deccan's two-faced chase that petered out tamely. At the halfway stage of their innings Kolkata had 80 on the board, but the last five overs yielded 65 runs to furrow Adam Gilchrist's brow. In stark contrast, Deccan managed just two boundaries in the last six overs and after Shane Bond bowled four consecutive dot balls in the penultimate over the last six deliveries were but a formality. Deccan's nightmare was best summed up by the plight of their captain, Gilchrist, who missed two stumpings and was then knocked over for just nine.
For any Ganguly fan down the years, the man's innings would have warmed the heart. Ganguly had been under the scanner for his sluggish scoring, but it was he and Hussey who added 78 in a steady 7.3 overs after Kolkata were , at 68 for 3. From the time he put away the first ball of the game away to the boundary off his hips, and cut the third one past point, Ganguly looked the best he's been this year. But once again Kolkata had failed to make a strong start, with Chris Gayle and Cheteshwar Pujara failing to make an impression. Gayle was utterly clueless about a gentle offcutter from Andrew Symonds that he lobbed high in the air to long-off. Pujara played three classy boundaries but was undone by the slowness of the track, becoming Symonds' second victim. Despite some wayward bowling, Deccan had kept Kolkata to 46 for 2 after the Powerplays.

loose for sloppy punjab

A clutch of cameos from their batsmen, including the under-fire pair of Kumar Sangakkara and Yuvraj Singh, pushed Kings XI Punjab to a fighting total in Mohali. Ravi Bopara, pushed down to No. 4, chipped in with a well-paced knock to ensure the momentum wasn't lost though both Sangakkara and Yuvraj were dismissed just as they looked set to explode.
Bangalore's bowlers were spot-on with the new ball after a couple of matches of being ragged. Praveen Kumar got the ball to move a touch and tied down Shaun Marsh in the first over before Vinay Kumar, opening instead of Dale Steyn, had Marsh poking to Rahul Dravid at first slip in the next over.
Sangakkara, though, invigorated the innings with a couple of classy square drives and a whip past square leg for four. Steyn, the spearhead, was brought in but he too leaked boundaries, and a string of fours from opener Manvinder Bisla pushed Punjab to 26 for 1 after five overs. The pair kept averaging a boundary an over, and had added 63 runs without much trouble when Bisla fell attempting a scoop off Anil Kumble, being done in by a straight one.
Still, Sangakkara was looking the most fluent he has all tournament, and continued to find the gaps. A controlled, superbly timed lofted off-drive of Kevin Pietersen's first ball and a flat-batted bash down the ground kept the runs coming.
Till then, Steyn had had a poor game, being expensive in his first over and a misfield at the boundary his only contributions. However, he made a crucial intervention, removing the ominous Sangakkara in the first ball when he returned for the 12th over.
That brought in the man in the eye of the controversy that engulfed the build-up to this game - Yuvraj. Steyn rattled him with a bunch of short balls, including a 151kmh bouncer that struck Yuvraj on the back shoulder.
Yuvraj, though, showed glimpses of his destructive best, swatting Jacques Kallis into the crowd behind midwicket and then picking a Kumble googly early and clubbing it beyond long-on for six. With Bopara offering solid support, and Bangalore presenting a bunch of full tosses, Yuvraj powered Punjab ahead but just when the fans were getting ready for a feast of hitting from Yuvraj, he miscued a legstump ball to midwicket in the 18th overThursday, 1 April 2010

Aussie cricketers forget fear, fly to IPL
Yahoonews, Indian Express, 01 April 2010
There will be no rest for Australian cricketers Shane Watson, Mike Hussey, Ryan Harris and Doug Bollinger, as they will be heading to India for participation in the third edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 tournament.
Last month, the Australian players were caught in a security furor after a threat from a militant group linked to al-Qaeda raised the prospect of mass withdrawals.
But the threat was not credible, according to the Australian government, and the arrival of the last four Australians proves the rich show will go on in all but the most extreme circumstances, reports The Age.
Still, some Australian players already in India have reported concerns about safety arrangements to their union at home. One team bus was stranded on a bridge for 90 minutes, while other concerns have been raised about team hotels.
'I don't know if the security issue really ever goes away,' the paper quoted Australian Cricketers Association boss Paul Marsh, as saying.
'There are concerns no matter where we tour. We are now just playing a monitoring role on behalf of the players, which we'll continue to the do for the rest of the tournament,' he said.

yes, sania had a good opportunity as an indian. nothing would have happened had she lived in pakistan. she has a really backward thinking family (i heard it is her dad who still lives in the dark ages). living in pakistan will be bad for her. with a backward thinking family like this, maybe she deserves this punishment.

Jacob Oram is another immensely talented New Zealand player in the long list, whose career has been continuously hampered by various injuries. A tall all-rounder, Jacob Oram is an exciting cricketer to watch. Being a power-house batsman, the southpaw has the capability to smash the ball out of the ground. Considering his 1.98m height, Oram is surprisingly an agile outfielder. The southpaw is predominantly a one-day player but has also done a fair job in Test cricket. He believes in entertaining the crowd and it is hard to keep your eyes off the action when Oram is out in the middle. He makes great use of his height and generates pace and bounce from the pitch at his will. Oram has the knack of picking wickets at the right time and is capable of clocking deliveries around 140 kph.His performance in recent Test and ODI matches have been very impressive. If Oram is able to keep himself fit, one can see New Zealand winning more matches and touching greater heights, courtesy the big all-rounder.

Unbelievably it got worst for the visitors four balls later when Abhishek Jhunjhunwala (2) was run out by Sarabjit Ladda after he was turned back by Adam Voges as the pair when for an ill judged second run reducing the Royals to 32-4.
Yusuf Pathan (24) offered another innings of fireworks smashing two huge sixes into the stands but as one of the Royals last recognised batsman he should have taken more responsibility and built a recovery with Voges instead of throwing away his wicket.

Record : 24 sixes hit in today T20 match between India & New Zealand (Full Scorecard). India and Australia held the previous record of most 6s in a 20 over match (20) when they played the semi-final match in T20 World Cup 2007 at Durban.
Teenager Umer Akmal lifted Pakistan to 153-5 before they survived a late charge by Brendon McCullum (47) and Scott Styris (43) to maintain their 100-per cent record against New Zealand. Pakistan, who won the first match by 49 runs on Thursday ... moreAustralia's innings went into freefall from the time Clarke sliced a ball to point to be caught for 32 from 26 balls. The next seven batsmen were dismissed for single figures as Australia lost its last eight wicket for 59 runs. Only a sensible late-order innings from the most experienced Twenty20 specialist, David Hussey, ensured Australia would reach three figures. Batting at four Hussey finished unbeaten on 40 from just 31 balls with a four and two sixes.Watson committed the first sin of the night, coming back for a very ambitious third run to be run out by a fine throw in the deep from Umar Akmal. However his first over with the ball was a gem, a wicket-maiden which sent Khalid Latif on his way for six to leave Pakistan 3-44. Latif may have been unlucky as replays suggested an inside edge.
David Warner, who made such a spectacular debut in the corresponding match a year ago against South Africa, smashing 89 in just 43 balls, started well again last night.
He made 24 in 14 balls with a four and a six before slicing a delivery from Mohammed Asif to deep point.
Shaun Tait unleashes record thunderbolt in T20 win
MICHAEL Clarke declared the "Wild Thing" is back after Shaun Tait bowled the fastest delivery ever recorded in Australia during a devastating spell which snatched Australia a Twenty20 victory over Pakistan in Melbourne last night.
The biggest roar of the night from the largest crowd of the summer, 60,045, came when a primed Tait clocked 160.7km/h with the third ball of Pakistan's innings on the way to finishing with 3-13 from his four overs.
Defending a meagre 127 after a dreadful batting performance, Australia restricted Pakistan to 9-125 from its 20 overs to win by two runs.
Under new Twenty20 captain Clarke, Australia completed a clean sweep of Pakistan this summer, having won all three Tests and all five one-day matches.
Two late wickets from 20-year-old debutant Steven Smith (2-34) compounded Pakistan's misery as Clarke bravely continued to attack. He kept a slip in for the young leg-spinner and twice put in three slips during Tait's blistering opening two overs.

It is not the first time in his career Tait has clocked the magical 100mph on the old scale but sadly the body of this super-talented 26-year-old has been so decimated by injury he now only plays the short forms of the game for South Australia.
"He's got more in him," Clarke joked after the match.
Tait is now chasing Shoaib Akhtar's world record of 161.3, recorded during the 2003 World Cup.
"It's amazing how fast Shoaib bowled," Tait said later. "I almost killed myself out there tonight. It (the record) is not something I think about all the time.
"There are only certain moments in your career when you've got a chance to do it. You've probably got two balls in a game. I did it with my third ball and had a crack with my next ball but it's hard to get back up to that pace."
Tait said he was able to bowl so quickly because he was fresh.
"Looking back, the decision I've made at this stage only to play the short forms of the game has been a pretty solid one," he said. "I'm really enjoying the shorter forms and tonight was just good fun."
After slumping to 4-59, Pakistan appeared it would run down victory thanks to an inspired innings from recalled wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal, who scored 64 in just 33 balls with seven fours and two sixes. He holed out to mid-on, giving Tait his third wicket.
Shane Watson at first slip took the catch for the first Tait wicket to dismiss Imran Farhat (8) after a direct hit by Mitchell Johnson removed Imran Nazir without scoring. Then in a one-over second spell, Tait removed Pakistan's acting captain, Shoaib Malik for three, from 11 balls, when he chipped a full ball to debutant Travis Birt at mid-wicket.
Pakistan came into the game in disarray, with their third captain in as many matches after Shahid Afridi was suspended for bitting the ball during the fifth and final one-day match in Perth.
The history of T20
On January 12th,2005, Australia’s first ever Twenty20 match wasplayed at the WACA between the Western Warrior and the Victoria Bushrangers. The first ever Twenty220international was played between Australia and w Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland on 17thFebruary, 2005.The event was on the whole wasa success but some West Indian legends of the game, such as Micheal Holding, criticized it for being total ‘rubbish’. The match consists of twenty overs a piece and has to be finished within 3hrs. This gives each side exactly 75mins to get through their twenty overs with. Failing to bowl the requisite number of overs within the given time limit could result in penalty as per the umpire’s discretion. The penalty could be in the form of extra runs being awarded to the batting side if the bowling side is found guilty or it could be in the form of extra time being rewarded to the bowling side if it is the former that is guilty of time wasting. However, opinion regarding Twenty20 cricket still remains divided as its promoters insist that it will not replace any of the traditional formats but on the contrary will increase interest in them by pulling more people towards cricket as a whole. They also argue that the Twenty20 format is a great way of introducing cricket to the non-cricketing world which is used to fast games such as football. A lot will depend on the Championships as to whether it will survive or simply run out of air. The question is not whether it is popular but whether this surge in popularity can be sustained.
